It’s the most exciting week of the year again. Yes, it’s Holiday Time… Christmas …Winterval. Whatever you call it, it means great times, amazing food , delicious drinks , family and friends and hopefully no work for a few days!
Here at Nightset we have put together a little selection of festive fun things you can do in London for the week if you are staying in town. Actually, the Christmas week is possibly one of the most amazing times to stay in London. If you go out on Xmas day or Boxing Day early in the morning, you will see this beautiful city at its quietest. Worth the effort, we promise 🙂
Okay, here’s a few of our favourite little secrets to enjoy London during the Xmas holidays:
1) The Bavarian Village at Winter Wonderland
It’s cheesy. It’s loud. It’s full of new people to meet. What’s not to LOVE about this slice of Bavaria in Hyde Park every year. Although it’s hard to miss, it still surprises us that not everyone has been to the Bavarian Village deep within the heart of this seasonal Wonderland! Proper authentic German Sausages (and Chicken and veggie options if that’s not your thing) and loads of festive German beer and mulled wines and ciders are the order of the day here. Great to take a group of mates or to snuggle with your loved one or be brave and head down on your own if you want to guaranteed meet fellow Xmas wanderers. The village closes a bit earlier on Christmas Eve, is closed on Christmas day itself but handily open on Boxing day. Open until 1st January.
2) Greenwich Wintertime
For a completely different take on the holiday festival, get down to the Royal Naval College at Greenwich which is doing a completely different, more sophisticated contemporary party spirit. Included in the entry is ice skating, silent disco, DJ’s, a Christmas market and loads of food and drink stalls. The view is amazing with the Cutty Sark and surrounded by 500 Xmas trees.
3) Get Chilled at the Ice Bar
It’s one of our favourites and still, literally, super cool. The Ice Bar on Heddon street is open all over Xmas, except the 25th itself, but phone to check availability or book through the web site. This place is a Nordic, Xmassy dream. Everything is made of ice , including the glasses and the furniture! You get given warm arctic coats, gloves and hats and it’s definitely a thing to do with a friend. There’s loads of other bars and eating places on the same road, so you can continue the party after (and before!). Ice, Ice, Baby 🙂
